Code of Behaviour

Ramsgate RSL FC is a family sporting club that teaches and plays in accordance with the spirit of football. We encourage all our players, coaches/managers and parents/supporters to embrace the competition, team environment and opportunity to challenge themselves without fear of the result.

By registering with the club you agree to be bound by this code of behaviour. In the interest of clarity it includes social media, training, game days, monthly Managers/Coaches meetings, annual general meetings, gala days, tournaments, presentation days/nights.

Breaches of the code will be considered by the Executive Committee and may result in disciplinary action e.g. suspension.

Players Code of Behaviour

Coaches/Managers Code of Behaviour

  1. Always respect, when using and at all times the facilities and equipment provided (including returning jersey at the end of the year);

  2. Know and abide by the rules. Accept both the letter and the spirit of the rules; 

  3. Respect team mates, the other team, the referee, coach, manager, and other club members; 

  4. Control your temper. Verbal and physical abuse of teammates, officials, other club members, spectators as well as sledging other players, and deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours;

  5. Treat all participants as you would like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor;

  6. Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches;

  7. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion;

  8. Be honest with the coach concerning illness and injury;

  9. Enjoy the competition, not the result;

  10. All players are asked to show respect to their coaches/managers by attending all training sessions and matches and be co-operative at all times. Players who cannot attend training session/matches are required to advise the coach/manager so appropriate measures can take place;

  11. Be honest in your attitude and preparation to training/matches. Work equally hard for yourself and your team so that your team’s performance will benefit and so will you;

  12. Do not throw missiles (including on to the field of play or any other part of the ground, or at other spectators);

  13. Accept defeat with dignity and do not seek excuses for defeat or blame the referee or anyone else;

  14. Playing while suspended and/or knowingly aware of another player participating in a game that is unregistered, suspended etc;

  15. Be a positive role model.

  3. Encourage players to respect one another and to expect respect for their worth as individuals regardless of their level of play;

  4. Remember that young people participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun;

  5. Control your temper. Verbal and physical abuse of teammates, officials, other club members, spectators and sledging other players/coaches are not acceptable or permitted behaviours;

  6. Do not throw missiles (including on to the field of play or any other part of the ground, or at other spectators);

  7. Never ridicule or yell at a young player for making a mistake or not coming first;

  8. Encourage and facilitate players’ independence and responsibility for their own behaviour, performance, decisions and actions;

  9. Be reasonable in your demands on players’ time, energy and enthusiasm;

  10. Ensure that the time players spend with you is a positive experience;

  11. Treat all players fairly within the context of their sporting activities, regardless of gender, race, place of origin, athletic potential, colour, sexual orientation, religion, political beliefs, socio-economic status and other conditions;

  12. Ensure that the tasks and/or training set are suitable for age, experience, ability, and physical and psychological conditions of the players;

  13. Display control and respect to all those involved. This includes opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, parents and spectators. Encourage your players to do the same;

  14. Show concern and caution toward sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition;

  15. Demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility especially when dealing with persons under 18 years of age;

  16. Be aware of responsibilities under the Child Protection Act and report any matters as required under the mandatory reporting requirements of the Child Protection Act;

  17. Accept defeat with dignity and do not seek excuses for defeat or blame the referee or anyone else;

  18. Playing a suspended player and/or knowingly aware of another player participating in a game that is unregistered, suspended etc;

  19. Be a positive role model.

Parents/Supporters Code of Behaviour

  1. Always respect, when using and at all times the facilities and equipment provided;

  2. Do not force an unwilling child to participate in soccer;

  3. Remember, children are involved in soccer for their enjoyment, not yours;

  4. Encourage your child to play by the rules. Both to the letter and in the spirit of the rules;

  5. Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing;

  6. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game;

  7. Control your temper. Verbal and physical abuse of teammates, officials, other club members, spectators and sledging other players/coaches are not acceptable or permitted behaviours;

  8. Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performances and skillful play by all participants;

  9. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities. Do not use violence in any form, whether it is against other spectators, officials, members, players;

  10. Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise;

  11. Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate;

  12. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion;

  13. Do not involve yourself in the disciplining of your own or any other child whilst at training or a match, unless requested to do so by a coach/manager. Physical discipline will not be tolerated in the club environment;

  14. All parents are asked to show respect to their coaches/managers by ensuring their child attend all training sessions and matches and being co-operative at all times. Players who cannot attend training sessions/matches are required to advise the coach/manager so appropriate measures can take place;

  15. Do not throw missiles (including on to the field of play or any other part of the ground, or at other spectators);

  16. Do not enter the field of play;

  17. Accept defeat with dignity and do not seek excuses for defeat or blame the referee or anyone else;

  18. Be a positive role model.
